Candidates are given a dossier composed of texts and authentic audiovisual documents and a question paper.
They must pick out relevant information from the written and audiovisual documents, based on the comprehension activities in order to complete realistic tasks:

• writing emails or short letters (level B1), summary notes or articles (B2) or briefing notes (C1);
• leaving voicemails (level B1), negotiating and reaching a compromise (level B2) or providing expert advice (level C1).

In order to succeed in the CLES, the candidates must:

• complete the scenario-based mission;
• make the contents their own;
• process the information (sort, select, prioritise, etc.) in order to complete the final writing and speaking tasks.

NOTE: All the tasks proposed are interrelated. The information identified during the listening and reading tasks is intended to enrich the writing and speaking tasks.

CLES B1 Scenario

Total duration: Two hours - Simulation of a real-life situation likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken.

CLES B2 Scenario

Total duration: Three hours - Simulation of a real-life situation based on a mission that is connected to the working world and involves solving a problem and reaching a compromise.

CLES C1 Scenario

Designed by field of activity: Art, Literature and Languages; Human and Social Sciences; Engineering Sciences; Life Sciences; Medical Studies; Law, Economy and Management.
Total duration: 4 hours 20 minutes - Simulation of scientific or professional communication and participation in the scientific life of your field of study, research or expertise.
